Do you feel overwhelmed with options? Do you never know what to choose? Do people complain that you take too long to do things?

Indecisiveness is one of the most prevalent forms of confusion that exists in the world today. Never before have we been surrounded with so many options. We live in a consumerist environment that is always making promises about everything. We are bombarded with more advertisements and messages then ever before.

According to one study done by Walker-Smith we've gone from being exposed to about 500 ads a day back in the 1970's to as many as 5,000 a day today. No wonder we get indecisive! We constantly being bombarded by the wants and desires of other people!

In this article I will share with you where the nature of indecisiveness stems from and how to move on from it so you can become more focused and clear about what you want. Indecisiveness stems from the environment that we’ve come up in. Fear, is one of the most common tactics used by advertisers because they know it is a big motivator. Fear motivates us to action, usually buying action. We fear everything! We fear not having the best experience. We fear not living a fulfilled life. We don’t just fear physical things, we fear intangible things. And marketers count on this to control our actions.

The #1 reason why we become indecisive is because we are overwhelmed with possibility. It’s only been within the past 50 years or so that we’ve had so many options available to us. Never before has this been possible. Before, most people would just accept their lot in life because they didn’t have a choice. There weren’t modes of transportation, we didn’t have the internet. Our minds were controlled mostly by what the public told us. And the public told us what we should want.

Now we live in a time of information overflow where our minds can expand. For the most part we didn’t have a choice as to what to believe. If we grew up in a village and that village taught Christianity, then that was all we knew. Now, we have too many options via the internet. It is the same with material things as well. We have more options then ever now. Cars, houses, apartments! How do you know which one to choose?

And this is where indecisiveness kicks in.

With more options comes more possibilities to pick the wrong thing, or so we think. Most of us our maximizers. We want to squeeze every last drop out of everything within our experience. There is nothing wrong with wanting to maximize our life however we need to realize that life now will throw us a million options. And many of the times we become indecisive because we are afraid of making the “wrong” decision.

This is called buyers remorse and it didn’t exist in a world when we had no options. Buyers remorse is inevitable in the world we are living in today. We will always see a potential better thing whether it be a car, relationship, or job.

I’m all about maximizing my experience. I’m all about creating the best life possible. But sometimes it’s important for us to realize that we can never actually truly know if our decisions were the “right” ones. And that can be a scary realization.

We like to think and tell ourselves that we didn’t make a mistake or go down the wrong path. However, in the end what we have to realize and understand is that we’re just making decisions.

Sometimes life turns out good and other times it turns out bad. We can actually never truly know. We can only follow our passion and trust that. And when we doubt ourselves in the future at least we can tell ourselves, “I did what I felt was truly right at the time.”

People get caught up in this idea of following their intuition. And I do believe that we have an intuition. But sometimes we get angry at ourselves or our intuition when we choose it and things don’t seem to turn out good. I’ve made plenty of choices in life where I felt like I was listening to my intuition and I ended up heartbroken and financially broke. I got mad at myself and really started to self-doubt. There is no need for this though. I want to make it abundantly clear that life can go a million hundred different ways. It’s important to learn from our mistakes and reevaluate however many people don’t ever take risks or try something new because they feel overwhelmed by choices.

Do I go to college? Do I start a business? Do I get married? What do I do and how do I know if I’ve made the right choice or not?

Here’s the kicker. You don’t, and you can never know.

In the end there is no spiritual path or journey. You just make choices and decisions in life and you evolve and change. We act like we’re on some journey heading somewhere. In reality, we’re just living and making choices. And when you make choices change is inevitable. It’s not just inevitable it’s natural.

You will always change because life will force you to make choices. You might get divorced, leave a job, end a friendship. Any of these things can happen. And you might question your own decision making skills. This is normal. You should question your own decision-making skills because making good choices is something that you have to learn as well too.

We become indecisive because we fear making the wrong decision that won’t give us maximum return. So, I will share with you two ways to get over your indecisiveness.

#1 You will never know for sure if you made the right decision or the wrong decision. What’s important is that you decide and take action! Only when the pain of not moving becomes greater than your fear of making the wrong decision will you change your life.

Take action! You can think, plan, and worry all day or you can see your options, weigh the pros and cons as best as you can, and then dive in. Dive into the unknown and life. Is it scary? Hell yes? Is it liberating? Hell yes? Fear is normal and to be expected but don’t let it dictate every aspect of your life.

#2 You can always readjust. And if you’re young then this is most true for you. Life will always present you with opportunities and ways to advance. Don’t worry about getting caught up behind everyone. Don’t worry about making the wrong move. If you go broke and everything fails, then guess what? You can rebuild.

Nations fall and nations rise. It’s never the end of the world. If you’re young take risks! Take risks, take risks, and take risks! Pursue a passion and leave everything you’ve ever known. Go out on a limb. If you go broke and lose everything you ever had then guess what? You can rebuild! People don’t take action in this world because they fear losing everything that they have worked so hard to obtain. Well I’m going to share a secret with you. THE UNIVERSE REWARDS RISK! It rewards persistence! It rewards novelty and innovation! It rewards you when you move forward against your fears.

If you constantly live in fear of losing everything that you’ve worked so hard to obtain then you’ll close yourself off in life. You won’t invest in yourself and the universe won’t invest in you. Invest in novelty, innovation, and take risks. Let go of indecisiveness.

If you’re thinking of starting something but not sure where to start or how it’s all going to come together, and you know that you’re passionate about it then don’t let all the questions overwhelm you. Not knowing where to start is OK. In fact, it's perfect! If you have the passion, then use that. That’s a good starting place. And remember if you fail just know that you can always readjust.

We have to learn to be successful. And we learn by failing. We learn everything by missing our mark. But like anything else the more you shoot and aim the closer you will get to your mark, it's inevitable. I can honestly say that I've never met a single person who continues to do one thing over and over again and get's worse at it.

Whatever it is that you're trying to create or start just realize that you can't mess it up. Your going to make mistakes! Your going to get rejected! And people will say no! But guess what? You'll have success! You'll get accepted! And people will say yes! Accept the ying and yang and reside right in the middle. Keeping one foot in each world and you will find balance and success.

Deepest Blessings and Pranamams!
