Ever wonder how people achieve so much in one day? Ever wonder how others seem to focus yet you get lost in your thoughts?
In this article I’m going to share with you three successful techniques that I use everyday to be absolutely 100% focused on what I’m doing. First, I’m going to go share with you why focus is so important to master, second I will go into why we get distracted in the first place, and then finally I will share with you solutions.
Focus is the most important life skill to master. Why? Because without true focus we cannot accomplish anything, not even meditation.
People thing meditation is letting go. It’s not, it’s focusing on something particular such as your breathe, a sound, or a physical sensation. Needless to say if you want to accomplish anything in this world then you need focus. And in this culture where we are surrounded with advertisements and everything crying out for our attention our focus is being hijacked. The latest studies are showing us that we see at least 10,000 advertisements a day. That was unheard of 100 years ago. Adverts are primed to hack our brain physiological responses. And we see them everywhere! On the road, on our television screen, on our computers, and now even our phones. And now there are designers who are learning to put them into your contacts so when you walk somewhere something pops up of interest. We are being hijacked and taken out of our power. Focus is you taking back your power which allows you to create the life that you want to hear in the physical. But you need techniques to manage focus.
But why do we get distracted in the first place?
One, because there is something that we are trying to avoid within ourselves. There may be some unpleasant feeling or emotion or physical sensation, so we look for something outside of us to distract ourselves from the unpleasantness.
We may not even be aware of the unpleasantness and just think it is normal to feel a particular way because that is how we grew up.
Two, our environment is set up to distract us and we are simply just being controlled and influenced by the environment around us. This is becoming commonplace within our modern world. In fact with the rise of technology including smartphones studies show that more and more people are becoming “ADD”.
It’s not just genetic now, it’s being created and manufactured by our bio-tech environment. Tech is increasingly becoming a normal part of our lives. Biology and technology are naturally becoming integrated.
Now, what are some solutions?
#1: Have a stress journal.
A lot of the times we experience anxiety or internal emotions that are unpleasant. We want to control these so instead we choose to distract ourselves with TV, food, or other addictions. It helps us to feel “less stressed”. But what if every time we felt stressed or started having anxious thoughts we could tell ourselves, “No, this isn’t the time. I’ve dedicated ten or fifteen minutes at the end of my day to be as worried as I want and that’s when you’ll get your time.” Many of us try to fight stress. Right we talk about combating it. What if you could become allies with it. Allow at least 10 minutes of your day to be dedicated 100% to worrying and stressing. Allow your mind to throw up anything and everything. If you do this everyday I can guarantee you that as you go throughout your day you won’t be as stressed. Anytime an anxious thought comes up you can promise your mind that you will give ten or fifteen guaranteed minutes to let it go haywire. You’d be surprised as to how effective this technique works.
#2: Use audio and visual meditations.
What do I mean by this? Use something that forces your subconscious mind to focus. For instance, I use a program called Mindflavors. Mindflavors uses sacred geometry, isochronic tones, and sonic resonance to communicate to the subconscious mind. It bypasses the conscious mind and its stream of thoughts and rewires your subconscious or the deeper parts of your being that control who you really are. It’s an amazing program that I use 2x everyday. Here’s a link!
#3: Manufacture your environment with a function in mind.
Every single space we go to in this world, aside from nature, is designed a way with an end goal in mind. Yours should be too. My bed space to sleep is set up a certain way so I can fall asleep as quickly as possible. I have an air humidifier with a soft light and an incense stick right beside my bed. For work I have a desk space set up with motivational quotes and sharp pristine pictures that inspire me to do my work. The way your environment is set up plays a huge role in the way your brain performs. If you surround yourself with the right tools then naturally your brain will focus on what you need to accomplish.
Deepest Blessings and Pranamams to you!
