In this article I'am going to talk about the power chakra, also known as the Manipura, its role in our lives, the importance of maintaining its proper functioning, give you a list of symptoms if it's out of whack, and then finally some exercises to get it back in shape.
This article is going to be especially helpful for all you empaths out there because we take on people's energy so much which really has an effect on this chakra. We digest other people's emotions and experiences for them, many of the times this happens unconsciously, so we end up not standing in our power because we are calibrating to the powers or energies around us.
The Manipura Chakra is linked to power. It's linked to the digestive system. If you feel strong, embodied, and capable then this chakra is in very good standing. If you are in your own power then you will be able to be deep breathing from your own belly, like a baby who breathes from their diaphragm, which causes you to be more relaxed and at ease. Which will have affects on your posture. Other people will be able to see this.
If it isn't in good standing then you will feel powerless. You feel as if everything around you has control over you. You will feel like you cannot effect the world in any way possible. You feel victimized too it and everything seems to be a struggle or very difficult. In fact if things come easy your mind might start saying to itself, "This is too easy. What is going on and why? This must mean something bad is about to happen?" You get so caught up in being the victim that if things start going right, or the way that you want them you start to tell yourself this cannot last long and it is a fluke of the universe life doesn't happen this way.
Many of us who don't stand in our power grew up in families where we were told how to think and what to do. We weren't given the space to just be who we wanted to be.
We weren't given the space to just be able to experiment with the world around us. Our parents, or one of our parents, treated us in a tyrannical way and constantly sought control over us. When we deviated from the norm our actions were met with swift punishment. You can tell between adults who had this type of upbringing from those who haven't based off of whether they take responsibility for their actions and our willing to put themselves out there and take risks. Children who are allowed to try new things, take risks, and experiment with the space around them will grow up exhibiting those same types of actions. However, the child whose parent was always watching them to see if they did something wrong, will constantly question and doubt themselves when they grow up because as a child everything they did was observed and if the action was out of the norm then it was meant with swift punishment. Because of this the child cannot learn to take personal responsibility nor do they feel like they are allowed to take action in the world. Instead, they will question every move they make, which manifests as anxiety, because in their childhood if they did anything outside of the box that wasn't expected of them they were disciplined.
The fear of discipline becomes ingrained inside of them and then they grow up scared to make decisions for themselves. Furthermore, you will feel uncomfortable making others feel uncomfortable.
Making people feel uncomfortable at times to get the job done is a necessary part of life. You have to "put yourself" out there so to speak. People whose manipura chakras are off will feel anxiousness around making others feel uncomfortable. However, they don't mind when others make them feel uncomfortable because they think to themselves they don't want to be an unpleasant person to be around. These contradictions then make them feel helpless and victimized, which are natural reactions to the above dynamic.
Many people in this category will have digestive issues which will most likely show up as irritable bowel syndrome. A common symptom for empaths who digest the emotions and experiences of others but aren't having the experiences they need for their own growth.
If this is the situation you find yourself in then you need to get your power chakra working. You need to start taking action in the world, any action, that makes you feel uncomfortable. It's scary to be walking and talking in your own power because you have been conditioned by your parents, society, or family not to walk and talk in your own power. It makes them feel uncomfortable. But if you continue this pattern then your being will get to a point where you feel tired of being and acting a certain way and that you've had enough. Why do you choose to be a certain way for the sake of others. Naturally, you will begin to feel like a victim. What has been buried in the surface has to come up.
Do something, anything that makes you feel uncomfortable initially. For instance, walk down the street smiling and walking tall. Literally walk in your power. People may look at you weirdly but just let them.
Let them think what they want to think and go on your merry way. Many people think that having power means having the ability to tell people what to do and how to do it. That is one aspect but many of those types who crave power like this crave it because they're not walking in their own power. They feel like they have no internal power so they seek it on the external. When you feel like you are completely in your own power you have no desire to tell other people what to do or how to be. It is just a natural way of being for you that flows out of you. You will see that once you dive into your manipura chakra and get it running the way it should be events and situations will start to form around you the way you want them too. At least that is what it will feel like. But in order to get this process started you first have to start taking some sort of action. Start exerting your power in ways that you couldn't have imagined before. Start speaking your own truths or how you perceive and see the world. Many people just shut themselves off and give their power away to gurus, political figures, and other characters because their own chakras are out of whack and not operating properly. When you focus on yourself and getting your energy to function the right way you'll find yourself not worrying about those characters who you used to worry about.
Secondly, wherever your awareness goes energy goes. So start meditating on this chakra. Place your awareness at the manipura level and feel the energy running into there and see what happens and what you feel like.
Do this for at least 30 minutes a day. Many people think that this exercise won't work because of it's simplicity. For instance, we question whether such a simple solution can fix such a big problem. The answer is YES! It can! In the materialistic world we have been conditioned to think that big problems need big answers and solutions so naturally this means you have to have big exercises. This isn't true. Meditate on your manipura, feel your awareness energy flow into their and I can guarantee
you that you will start seeing your being exerting itself more and more without experiencing fear, anxiety, or trepidation.
Deepest Blessings and Pranamams!
