In this article I'am going to explain the concept of grounding in relation to energy and how grounding on a daily basis helps you to get out of your mind, in your body, and in the the present moment. Furthermore, I'll explain why it's critical to have a daily practice or activity that allows you to ground your self in the body.

This is vitally important to all aspects of your health. Without a daily practice or habit which allows you to ground your energies into yourself and the earth you will lose connection with yourself and the environment. In some cultures, like in the Japanese culture, people are required to do some form of practice in the work place. Just as they get a lunchbreak they also get a practice break.

What does it mean to ground? When I think of grounding I think of electrical system. In any electrical system you have both positive and negative poles.

However, one of those poles, the positive one, in fact, is connected to something else which is connected to the ground. Without this connection to the ground if there is a spike in the energy source which is powering the electrical system then the whole system may burn out and blow up. However, if there is a ground the extra energy will simply ground into the earth and the electrical system will be spared of burnout. Your body is an electrical system. Through the nervous system, the body communicates to other parts of the body, using electricity. You function as an able organism through the nervous system. Have you ever seen people with nervous disorders. They have no control over their body. That's because the signals cannot be delivered. Now where does grounding come into all of this. We are physical beings, we are mental and emotional beings, we are spiritual beings, but we are also energy beings. At the smallest form we are simply just energy beings. This is our base self. We see our physical bodies but in reality are physical bodies are constantly growing and decaying, being built up anew and demolished. It happens at the microscopic level so we don't witness it. But this process is accomplished by the energy body.

The energy body is simply the program that determines the way your other bodies function.

For instance, if you eat excessively it is because within your energy body you have a program that tells you to eat excessively. Usually, if something is out of balance in one area it is because something else is out of balance as well. The overeating could be because in the emotional body there is a block or something awry. The energies divert to a physical habit to avoid having to deal with the uncomfortable feeling of the emotional block. We are all connected to a power source and that is Source itself. You can call it god, the divine, Brahman. Whichever name you give it doesn't matter. What's important is that you become aware of your connection to it and how much energy is being pumped down. Not everyone is pulling down the same amount of energy. For instance one person may be pulling down more energy from source because they're making healthier choices while other people are pulling down less energy because they make bad choices. Of course this isn't always the case.

But the importance of grounding comes in because for whatever reason we pull down to much energy or our energies get stuck in one body more than another.

For instance, a college professor has a majority of his energies going to his mental body. His job and profession demand him to spend alot of time in the head, in thought. He may be a brilliant thinker however his body may become depleted of energy and suffer, possibly become rigid. Because he spends a majority of time in his head he thinks too much, not just in class or outside of class but all the time. He cannot stop this inner voice from chattering and chattering. This is because there is an imbalance in the way the energies flow and function. Now, he has to have some activity which balances the energies back in a specific direction. I would suggest that he take up a grounding practice.

The practices can be anything from dancing, to working out, to playing a physical sport. As long as he consciously uses his energies in a physical way. Naturally, as humans we love to get and be in our bodies.

Embodiment practices make us forget about ourselves or who we think or imagine ourselves to be. Without a daily grounding practice our energies will get stuck operating in a certain way and when this happens we slowly become imbalanced and rigid as a human being.

Think of your life energies as a stream. You use these life energies to do various things with the physical body, whether it be dancing, a profession, having sex. The more the energies go one way the more likely you will do that thing again and again. Just as a river is carved out by water so to do your energies carve out specific habits based off the frequency of the actions you choose to do. In the longterm, if your not keeping a well balanced regime or lifestyle then you will carve out larger paths in one area and smaller paths in another thus creating yourself to be an imbalanced human being.

Sometimes, especially during Kundalini or spiritual awakenings, we start to pull down too much energy and we become intimately aware of how unbalanced we are. We realize how much of our life energies are being directed in one direction and how unhealthy this is for ourselves and the planet we are connected to.

The human being is a piece of the planet. Just as animals and planets are as well we've simply evolved differently based off of the environments. Today, in the world we see many individuals "going crazy". They "lose their minds" because too much of their life energies are being directed to the mind. We use the mind for nearly everything. Logic and using the mind has become next to god in the West. However, over 50% of people in the modern world today are on some sort of medication. This is social madness. Too much of the life energies are being directed to the mind and not the body. There is an imbalance which people are taking medication to bring back into balance. If your pulling down too much energy and a majority of that energy is going to the mind then you will feel overloaded and burnt out. Literally your system can be burnt out like an electrical system and you'll find yourself being exhausted or your mind will move to rapidly and you'll feel anxious all the time. Keeping a regular grounding practice such as Tai Chi, Yoga, or other types of physical activities can be very balancing and rewarding. It will keep your life energies from being overloaded into one area which will bring more

balance and ease to your entire life.
